The short answer
LED bulbs, fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs use a lamp-recycling collection. Older filament and halogen bulbs are not classified as WEEE by ERP, so check their disposal route with your collector.
Checked 7 October 2026 by BinDay against the sources below. This guide covers the Republic of Ireland; bin colours and collector instructions can differ.
What to do
- Identify whether the bulb is LED, fluorescent, filament or halogen.
- Use an approved lamp collection for LED and fluorescent bulbs.
- Check what the collection point accepts before travelling, particularly for damaged bulbs.
Common mistake to avoid
“Light bulb” covers different materials and collection rules. Do not assume every bulb belongs in the same recycling stream.
