Recycling centres in Ireland: find your nearest, by county

Your nearest recycling centre (also called a civic amenity site or "the dump") is run by or for your county council. Find it in the county table below or on the government-backed MyWaste locator. Most take bulky items, garden waste, electricals, batteries and recyclables; electricals are usually free, while general waste is charged. Check the council page for today's hours.

Last checked: 31 October 2026. Opening hours and charges change, so always check the council page linked for your county before you travel.

Published by John Fox, BinDay. This page covers the Republic of Ireland. It lists no opening hours, prices or phone numbers, so check the council page before you travel.

Find your nearest recycling centre

Use the MyWaste locator

MyWaste has a search for recycling centres and bring banks that you can filter by type of centre, location or name. MyWaste is run by the Regional Waste Management Offices on behalf of the Department of Climate Action, Communications and the Environment. It describes itself as “an information portal only” (about MyWaste).

Recycling centres by county

One row per council. Centres are named only where the council page or MyWaste confirms them; otherwise the row links to the MyWaste locator.

What can I bring to a recycling centre?

Recycling centres take far more than your kerbside bins or bottle banks, including bulky household items, garden waste, DIY waste, electricals, batteries and some hazardous household waste. South Dublin's Ballymount page is a good example: it lists free items (cardboard, paper, glass, cans, plastic bottles, batteries, fridges and freezers, electrical appliances, fluorescent tubes and more) and charged items (scrap metal, timber, green waste, general and bulky household waste, household hazardous waste, plasterboard, DIY waste and mattresses). Source: South Dublin County Council.

Each centre has its own list, so check the council page in the county table before you go.

Drinks containers with the Re-turn logo go to Re-turn return points. Find one with the deposit-return machine finder and read how deposits work.

How much does it cost?

Charges vary by council and site. These are the confirmed ways they are worked out. We do not copy prices onto this page because they go out of date. Open the council page for current charges.

  • Dublin City: Charges are "based on the type of the materials you are depositing and the size of your vehicle". There are no charges for packaging and electrical/electronic equipment. Source: Dublin City Council page
  • South Dublin: General waste is charged by vehicle size, mattresses are charged per item, and many recyclables and electricals are free. Source: South Dublin County Council page
  • Fingal: Charges apply by vehicle type and many recyclables and electricals are free. The centres were closed due to industrial action when we checked. Source: Fingal County Council page
  • Galway County: Civic amenity sites take recyclable household waste "for a small fee". Anything that needs a battery or power supply to work counts as WEEE, which is "free to deposit at Civic Amenity Sites". Source: Galway County Council page
  • Mayo: There is a per-car charge and a per-van or trailer charge. Electrical goods, batteries and clothes for recycling are free of charge. Source: Mayo County Council page

Opening hours, bank holidays and Christmas

Hours change seasonally, and centres may close on public holidays or in bad weather. We publish no hours here. Check the council page in the county table before travelling.

Big clear-out? Other options

For loads too big for a car boot, see bulk collection and the skip hire guide. To switch bin providers, compare collectors.

Recycling centre FAQs

Where is my nearest recycling centre?

Find your county in the table above, or search the MyWaste locator: https://mywaste.ie/dispose-waste/at-home/where-you-can-take-your-recycling-waste/

Are recycling centres open today?

It depends on the site and the season. Many close on some weekdays and public holidays. Check your council's page in the county table before you go.

Is "the dump" the same as a recycling centre?

Yes. People often call recycling centres or civic amenity sites "the dump". They take far more than bins or bottle banks, including bulky items and garden waste (see the South Dublin County Council page for an example list).

Is it free to bring electricals and batteries?

Often, yes. Dublin City, Galway County, Mayo and South Dublin all list electrical items as free. Mayo and South Dublin also list batteries as free. Check the council page for your site.

How much does it cost to use a recycling centre?

Charges vary. Some councils charge by vehicle size, some by material type, and some items are free. Check the council page for current prices.

What's the difference between a recycling centre and a bottle bank?

Bottle banks (bring banks) are unstaffed containers for things like glass and cans. Recycling centres are staffed and take a much wider range of waste.

Can businesses use recycling centres?

Some sites accept household waste only, such as Ballyogan in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown (https://www.dlrcoco.ie/ballyogan-recycling-park). Check your council's rules.

Are recycling centres open on bank holidays?

Some are and some aren't. See /bank-holiday-bin-collections and your council's page.
