Independent Irish household guide
Do bins get collected on bank holidays?
It depends on your collector and route. Some keep the usual day; others collect earlier. Never assume a one-day delay. Check the provider rules below, then confirm the date for your address before the holiday weekend.
Published 8 October 2026. Sources were checked on the dates shown below. These are general policies, not a verified October or Christmas timetable for your home.

Before you put the bins out
- Open your collector's current calendar or app and select the right address.
- Read any direct service message. Check the bin type as well as the date.
- Check before Saturday if the provider may collect early. A closed office does not prove a cancelled collection.
- If the calendar and a notice disagree, ask the provider. Update your reminder once the date is confirmed.

Bank-holiday collection questions
Are bin collections delayed by one day on Irish bank holidays?
There is no single rule across Ireland. Panda says most collections run normally; City Bin says affected household collections run on the previous Saturday; AES says they may run on the previous Saturday. Check your own provider’s calendar before the holiday weekend.
Does Greyhound collect on bank-holiday Mondays?
Greyhound’s September 2026 guidance says bank-holiday Monday collections run as scheduled, with no collections on Christmas Day or St Stephen’s Day. An older July 2025 page instead names Christmas Day and New Year’s Day as exceptions. These published festive rules conflict: use the current calendar or message for your address to confirm the actual dates.
Does a closed office mean the bins will not be collected?
No. Clean Ireland says its offices close on bank holidays while collections run except on Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day. Office opening hours and collection timetables are different.
Can I use an August notice for October or Christmas?
No. A notice can apply to one holiday and selected routes only. For example, the Oxigen notice linked here covers August 2026. Use a current calendar, account message or notice covering your actual collection date.
What should I do if two provider notices disagree?
Check the latest calendar or direct message for your address and ask the provider if the date is still unclear. BinDay flags conflicting sources rather than choosing a replacement collection date for your household.
