Which bin goes out this week?
The quickest way to know which bin goes out this week is to check your own collector’s calendar, in their app or customer portal, or look up your area on BinDay. Many Irish collectors alternate weeks: one week general waste (often with the brown bin), the next week recycling. Collection days and patterns vary by collector and area.

Two bins or three
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council says householders must separate food waste and either give it to an authorised collector or compost it at home, and must not put food waste in the general waste bin. Collectors must provide a separate food-waste bin or collection, under the Household Food Waste and Bio-Waste Regulations 2015 (Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council: food waste ↗). So alongside general waste and recycling, you may have a food-waste bin. Bin colours vary by collector, so go by the label on your bin.
The alternating-week pattern
Many collectors take different bins on different weeks. Greyhound, for example, says its Dublin schedule alternates: “for one week for example it could be Black and Brown bins, the following week it could be Green bins and this cycle continues” (Greyhound: bin schedule in Dublin ↗). That is Greyhound’s Dublin example, not a national rule. Your collector’s calendar shows your own pattern.
Brown bin and glass
How often the brown bin goes out depends on your collector and area; see what goes in the brown bin. MyWaste says glass bottles and jars go to a bottle bank (MyWaste: glass ↗); see glass bottles and jars and recycling centres.

Tonight or tomorrow? Timing tips
Panda says collection can be “anytime from 6am – 6pm” and asks you to put bins out the night before or before 6am (Panda: what day is the collection in my area ↗). Other collectors set their own times, so check your own collector’s instructions.

Which bin this week: questions
How do I know which bin goes out this week?
Check your collector’s calendar in their app or portal, or look up your area on BinDay. Many collectors alternate general waste and recycling weeks, but patterns vary.
Is it green bin week this week?
It depends on your collector and your area. Bin colours and rotas aren’t the same everywhere, so check your own calendar.
Do recycling and general waste go out on alternate weeks?
Often, yes. Greyhound, for example, describes alternating weeks in Dublin. Your collector’s calendar confirms your own pattern.
Does the brown bin go out with the general waste?
For some collectors, yes. Greyhound’s example pairs black and brown bins in the same week. Check your calendar.
Do I have to have a brown bin?
You must keep food waste separate and either put it in a brown bin collected by an authorised collector or compost it at home. Food waste must not go in the general waste bin.
What time should I put my bin out?
Panda says collections run anytime from 6am to 6pm, so put it out the night before or before 6am. Check your own collector’s guidance.
What happens to collections on a bank holiday?
Days can change. See our bank holiday bin collections page.
Where does glass go?
Glass bottles and jars go to a bottle bank unless your collector confirms a glass service. See our glass guide.
